Every year this happens! It gets cold and dark, and I'm like, "I don't want to work on anything big!" So February comes and I've just been dithering about on small projects, and then I look at the calendar, and fly into a panic about my rapidly vanishing life, and I vow to do better come spring.
But this year I have an excuse (other than Seasonal Affective Disorder) because I'm also working on re-branding the company! Mostly it feels administrative at this point, but once it's official I'll be showing off an overhauled webstore, new graphics, etc. Next couple of months for sure.
This is of course a ScaleQuail initiative.

Sometimes, concepts are just funny to some people. For instance, my brother has this thing where he thinks people in oversized mascot suits smoking inside the suit is inherently funny. He's not wrong.
I bring this up because I believe that precious metals have an inherent comedy about them. Don't get me wrong — I think noble gases are pretty hilarious too — but metal is easier to print on, so it's more feasible as a creative medium. I've also got a thing about magnets. The concept of them just kills me. I can't explain it very well.
Anyway, I've got a new metallic comedy project that involves magnetism available if you want to understand better.

Long-time fans may remember Diamond Find, my massive text-based diamond-locating simulator. Even longer-time fans (basically just my family at this point) might remember that I once put out a book called Gray which is, I have to say, my worst, and thankfully out-of-print.
Long story short, I wrote a sequel to Gray using the Diamond Find engine!
I'd originally planned to fix Gray and release them both at once, but in the end it wasn't worth it. Anyway, The Calico Brief is finally ready to play. It's far better than Gray ever was, and you don't need to have read the book to understand what's going on. It's... probably better if you haven't.
I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where I write books and build software.
This site was built with Ruby on Rails. Visit my GitHub page to view the source code or report a bug.
You may also find some non-serious coding projects in the Diversions area, and an archive of my failures in the Graveyard.
